December 26, 2011 - Letter from Elder Bird

Matt's was transfered to a new area today - Acapulco, Mexico.

Hey Family,

How is everything going at home since yesterday I am sure that  not much has changed since we talked  yesterday.Christmas went pretty well still didnt seem like Christmas to me but oh well it was good. The member in Iguala are really cool and made Christmas fun. Dad I cant really tell you much about my area yet I really only know that my companion is Elder Rodriguez and I am Vista Alegre but besides that I can't tell you much this week next week I will tell you more. I also got the pictures dad  so that was fun to see. One thing I do know that my new area has a lot more hills than before so that i will be a little tough getting used to again but not too bad I dont think. Well today we are not going to do too much just get unpacked and buy some food and that I think will be about it. Hope that everyone had a good Christmas and I will write again next week.

Love Elder Bird

Christmas Day Phone Call from Elder Bird

Views of Acapulco, Mexico

Today was a wonderful Christmas Day. We went to Church to celebrate the Birth of our Savour and then hurried home to wait for our call from Matthew.
He was suppose to call between 1:30 and 2:00. He did not call until 3:30 when we had started to eat dinner.
It was wonderful to hear from him. He says that is does not feel like Christmas down there because it is so warm in Mexico.
He is being transferred to Acapulco, Mexico tomorrow. This will be a completely different area for him. He has been in the middle of the country the whole time he has been in the Mission Field.
He will be up early to catch the bus down to the new area. It is a 4 hour drive to the coast of Mexico from where he has been.

He has been spending his Christmas Day going to Church and then visiting the families he has worked with in Iguala.
Good Luck Elder Bird in your new area!

 Elder Bird found a
 friend walking down the street.

 A view of Iguala, Mexico

Elder Bird found a reminder of home or a place close to home! This is the car of a member who is visiting their family in Iguala.

The area of Iguala, Mexico had a earth quake 2 weeks ago. Elder Bird was standing outside in his front yard and felt the earth move. No one was hurt, but he said that it was strange to feel the earth move.
The latest investigators had to move out of the area and another one was too young for lessons with her mothers permission. He is all ways trying to find new people to teach.
I will know more next time after we talk to him on Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

Iguala, Mexico

Iguala is the 2nd area Elder Matthew has served in. He is serving with his 4th companion since he has been in Mexico
I thought I would tell you more about Iguala, Mexico.

Iguala is the capital of the state of Guerrero.
The people of this area are know for their production beautiful jewelery of both gold and silver.
Iguala is the area of Mexico know for the current design of the country flag.
They have a special holiday observing their flag and their contribution to it's design.
This tiny map shows where Iguala is, I'm sorry it is so small. He is in the lower western side of Mexico.
He says that it is warm around 82 degrees and it does not feel like Christmas.
